CRETE 27 SEPTEMBER/4 OCTOBER

We will depart on BA 2552 at 1415 from Gatwick on 27 September arriving in Heraklion at 2015. Please note that BA no longer provide any food or drink on European routes. You can purchase snacks/sandwiches plus a drink on board.

We will go straight to the Hotel Astir Beach, Kato Gouves a four star hotel on the North Coast of Crete 18 kms east of Heraklion. The hotel was renovated in 2008.
In the main building there is a spacious and comfortable restaurant and indoor bar, a lounge with satellite TV, internet corner and billiard room. On the grounds of the hotel in front of the beach you will find a smartly constructed swimming pool. A pool bar, a snack bar and a mini market. The recreation centre consists of a gym with steam bath, sauna and whirlpool bath facility. We must point out that 4 star in Greece is not equivalent of 4 star in the UK.

The hotel is on a bed, breakfast and evening meal basis. There will be a welcome drink on arrival day – a choice of either orangeade or Ouzo. Breakfast is a buffet as is dinner each evening of our stay. Please note that on arrival day we will arrive after dinner time therefore a cold plate will be served instead of dinner. A glass of house wine with dinner each night at the hotel.

A full day excursion with an English speaking guide to visit Knossos, including the Palace of Knossos, then on to Archanes for a short guided walk, also included is a stop at a local wine estate to learn about wine making and to also taste the local wine.

A full day excursion with an English speaking guide to the Mirabello Gulf, to include a visit to Kera with entrance into the church. Free time in Krista followed by a boat trip from Elounda to Spinalonga Island for a guided visit here before returning to Elounda for time at leisure. Spinalonga was a leper colony.

The price of this trip will be £725 for members and £735 for non members. Unfortunately there is a single supplement of £120 for the duration of the tour in a double room. This figure is set by the hotel and is beyond our control. There is a supplement for a room with a sea view at £30 per person in a twin/double room for the duration and a supplement of £56 per person in a single room for the duration.

As we have booked the flights ourselves, the tour operator organising hotel and excursions do not provide insurance. If you do not have a European Health Card we would advise you obtaining one (this is free) but you will need insurance in case of cancellation, the European Health Card does not include everything ie if you have to have an ambulance you would have to pay for this.

A booking form is attached which you should return with your deposit of £100 per person.
