British Airways Retired Staff Association
The Retired Staff Association (RSA) consists of retirees of British Airways and its predecessor companies. British Airways fully supports the RSA with office accommodation, equipment and headed paper although everything else is provided from RSA funds that come from the Lottery and raffles. The RSA's prime function is a social club with over 11,000 members worldwide, mostly in the UK. Activities of the London Group and the 18 Provincial Centres are reported in an RSA Newsletter, the retired staff magazine Touchdown and also on the RSA website. Membership is available to all staff that retire on a pension. The cost of lifetime membership is £20. Application forms are available from the RSA office or website. Membership entitles a member and associate member to all RSA activities that include social events, outings and holidays both in the UK and abroad. An Association Day is held on the third Monday of the month at the Concorde Centre and guest speakers are invited to speak on a number of interesting topics. These afternoon events are free and include tea and cake. Times are 1400 to approximately1600. Many of our members have lunch at the Concorde Club first. Rose Gowlett is the Chair of the Retired Staff Association and she is supported by an elected voluntary committee of retired British Airways employees who are available to offer help, advice and comfort to retired staff with any problems. The social activities encourage members to participate with others of similar interests. The Provincial Centres also have a separate calendar of events and members are encouraged to contact their local centre and join in these local activities. Our first Newsletter last year proved very popular with our members and will become a regular feature with our lottery letter each year. In addition, we shall contact those members who have expressed a specific interest in receiving details of proposed holidays and outings.
The RSA is very happy to welcome all new members who have recently joined us following the closure of the 25-year Club at the end of March 2009 and also those who have recently retired from British Airways. It is also with great sadness we have to tell you that one of our colleagues, Dorothy Anderson, whom many of you will know from going on the Outings arranged by the RSA, died suddenly on 24th June 2008 after a short illness.
